Conditions for railroad operations in the U.S. do not look as good as on the other side of the Great Lakes. While Canadian National (CNI) and Canadian Pacific (CP) have wrestled with a greater demand and adverse environmental conditions onditions that have sparked a heated debate at Congress .S. railroad operators lack the necessary demand to be noticed by the market.
Another characteristic that separates operators in the U.S. from those in Canada is the geographic presence. Both Canadian operators compete along the same routes, but in the U.S., companies are assigned to regions. Hence, CSX (CSX) only operates railways from north to south, between the Mississippi River and the Atlantic Ocean. Most importantly, the firm operates no railway along the Mississippi River, and routes are intended to connect the delta with the ocean and vice versa. Nonetheless, four gurus have taken new positions in the railway operator during the last quarter of 2013. Are they looking for a long-term investment? Should you?

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Victor Nguyen]
Citigroup cited two potential catalysts for their upgrade, "First; Knight appears intent on resuming growth in 4 and may use an acquisition to get it. While it remains involved with USA Truck (NASDAQ: USAK), valuation sensitivity may prevent the deal from being complete, but Knight could refocus attention to another target. Second; we believe continued economic growth and Hours of Service restricted capacity could drive improvement in TL fundamentals, potentially aiding yield growth and margins."

Despite what can best be described as asoft economy, small cap trucking stocks YRC Worldwide, Inc (NASDAQ: YRCW), Arkansas Best Corporation (NASDAQ: ABFS), Frozen Food Express Industries, Inc (NASDAQ: FFEX), Saia Inc (NASDAQ: SAIA) and USA Truck, Inc (NASDAQ: USAK) have been trucking some pretty impressive returns since the start of the year. In fact, these small cap trucking stocks are up anywhere from 72% to 150% or so since the start of the year despite the slow economy. Certainly trucking stocks provide a good indicator of how the economy is doing, but might investors bejumping the gun by pushing up these trucking stocks?

A week and a half ago when I suggested Latteno Food Corp. (OTCMKTS:LATF) was an effective way of getting into the medical marijuana craze for anyone who missed the big runups (the first or the second time) from names like Medical Marijuana Inc. (OTCMKTS:MJNA) or Hemp, Inc. (OTCMKTS:HEMP), not many people agreed with my assessment. That's the nice way of saying I received some "colorful counter-opinions" to my bullishness on LATF. Indeed, some readers were downright enraged I would dare compare the company to stocks like MJNA or HEMP, citing reasons ranging from the possibility that it's a complete scam to the possibility that the capital structure as amazingly unfair to current shareholders.
