USD/JPY rallied to its highest levels since September 11, after Japan's Finance Minister Taro Aso said it was important to keep foreign exchange intervention as a policy option.
Speaking in parliament on Thursday, Aso said "Japan must have tools to counter speculative moves in the currency market."
Aso's remarks emphasized the Japanese government's commitment to stimulate the economy with a weaker yen. Concerns over the health of the Japanese economy heightened after annualized GDP growth slowed in the third quarter.
While the yen softened after Aso remarks, Japanese shares rallied, with the Nikkei 225 (NKY) Stock Average closing at its highest level since May. Depreciation of the yen aids Japanese exporters, making their products cheaper in foreign markets.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Matt DiLallo]
None of this is to say that these short-sellers don't have any valid arguments, but there does appear to be some gamesmanship going on. Knowing full well that at some point the SEC has to look into these accusations, it's bound to drop the stock price when investors run for the hills once an inquiry is disclosed. Investors in both LINN Energy and its affiliate LinnCo (NASDAQ: LNCO ) are unfortunately learning that lesson this week.
- [By Matt DiLallo]
Investment idea No. 1: LINN Energy (NASDAQ: LINE ) or LinnCo (NASDAQ: LNCO )
For those who are not familiar with these income machines, LINN is structured like an MLP, meaning investors will receive a K1 come tax time. LinnCo on the other hand is structured like a normal C-Corp meaning investors will receive a Form 1099 each year. Because LinnCo's sole assets are units of LINN you can invest in either company depending on your tax preference.
